O AT HOME
December 2006
My House, My Style
Does your home style affect your fashion sense?
My home is an extension of what's in my closet. I want what feels comfortable and is aesthetically pleasing on my body
to surround me in my home. I bought a painting by African-American artist Rhonda Saffold, of a woman in a crimson dress,
and I became drawn to red accent pieces. The next thing I knew, I went on a red-dress shopping spree.
Any big mistakes?
I had no idea what to do with the first house I bought, a huge French Normandy monstrosity. Instead of sitting back and
allowing it to speak to me, I hired someone to select window treatments for the 100-plus windows. The result was a
floral explosion, completely unrepresentative of me.
